The clean energy and technology sector is broadly defined by PCG AM as those products and services that yield more efficient and less polluting solutions than the status quo. This investment opportunity is supported by robust fundamental drivers including: the growing awareness of the risks and opportunities associated with climate change, changing consumer and corporate behavior, technology innovation, public policy support, reliability and security of energy supplies, fundamental energy supply and demand imbalances, historical underinvestment, and volatile fossil fuel and commodity prices. Within this context, the clean energy and technology sector presents an opportunity for investors to catalyze the evolution of a rapidly growing economic sector that is vital to future economic development.
PCG AM has been actively involved in this sector since 2005 when it was selected as the Investment Advisor to the CalPERS Environmental Technology Program. Since then our activities have expanded to include the formation of the PCG Clean Energy & Technology Fund, a discretionary sector focused fund-of-funds and co-investment vehicle, specialized advisory engagements, and supporting our traditional advisory clients by assisting in the development of their approach to the sector within the context of their broader private equity portfolios.
